چکیده

Ralph M. Steinman, professor of immunology at The Rockefeller University in New York and one of the great immunologists of our time, died on September 30 after a long fight with pancreatic cancer, just three days before the announcement that he had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the dendritic cell. Steinman is universally recognized for having given birth to the vibrant field of dendritic cell biology and for having nurtured it through many years of skepticism and dispute to its current position as a central paradigm of modern immunology. Born in a family of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Ralph Steinman received his undergraduate degree from McGill University in 1963 and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in
